Assessing Young Learners’ Language Competences

On 20-21 October 2011 a seminar on "Assessing Young Learners’ Language Competences" was held in Warsaw. The seminar, organized by IBE, was a part of a larger series of meetings entitled "Research and education policy".
The main aims of the seminar were:
- to exchange experiences concerning effective methods of assessing language competence levels of young learners,
- to discuss reliable assessment methods and accurate description of language achievements of students in middle schools and early education..
The quality of school education - the UK experience

On 27/28 October 2011 an international seminar "European research on the quality of school education - the UK experience and lessons for Polish educational institutions" was held in Warsaw. The seminar, organized by IBE, was a part of its "Research and education policy" series. The special guest was Dr Michael Maddison, member of the British Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), Specialist Adviser for History. The seminar gathered 40 participants from leading Polish educational institutions (Centre for Education Development, Center for Citizenship Education, Warsaw Centre for Social and Educational Innovation and Training, Superintendent's Office in Warsaw).
.Effective policies for the development of competencies of youth in Europe

"The potential of young people is primarily the potential of their competences and qualifications. In the interest of Europe's future, the future of us all, their competences development policy must be effective," said Lilla Jaron, Deputy Minister of National Education, opening today (16 November) the international conference, "Effective policies for the development competencies of youth in Europe." A three-day conference, organized by the Ministry of Education, the European Commission and the Educational Research Institute, carried out under The Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Professor Howard Gardner at IBE

On October 10, 2011, our Institute had a pleasure to host world-renowned researcher, lecturer of Harvard and Boston Universities, professor Howard Gardner, an expert in the field of cognitive psychology and the psychology of learning, creator of the concept of multiple intelligences.
Apart from IBE experts, the meeting was attended by researchers from the University of Warsaw, Pedagogical University in Cracow as well as school and kindergarten teachers.
