Study visit to France
- Published on Monday, 12 December 2011 02:07
From 3 to 11 April, 2011 representatives from IBE Science Section took part in a study visit to France (Grenoble, Chambery and Paris).
The chief objective of this visit was to gain better understanding of the French education system at the ISCED2 level and, in particular, the forms and methods of work and student assessment techniques in natural science subjects. Several meetings took place during the visit: with educational inspectors from the Grenoble area, with Mr Michel Grangeat from the Educational Science Laboratory at Grenoble University and with Mr Hervé Lesnard, who works at the International Centre for Educational Research (CIEP), an institution responsible for creating school curricula for teaching natural sciences.
.
During the visit, Mr Marcin Chrzanowski and Mr Piotr Walicki from IBE Science Section were accompanied by Ms Monika Matysiak in the role of interpreter, who helped to conduct a series of interviews with teachers and school principals, and translated the answers of pupils and teachers during lesson observations.
During their stay in Grenoble the team visited three schools where lessons were conducted at ISCED2 level – College de Gresivandan in St. Ismier, College Munch Grenoble and College de Jean Villar in Grenoble.
The team carried out observations during biology, chemistry, physics as well as geography lessons.
Didactic materials - tests prepared by the teachers, lesson plans, the national Brevet test and documents concerning the assessment of pupils are being translated and analyzed with respect to teaching important competences in natural sciences. In addition, a report on the study visit is in preparation.
The visit was part of the study "Analysis of natural science teaching in selected countries", which is part of the systemic project ”Research into the quality and effectiveness of education and the institutionalization of research resources” co-financed by the European Social Fund as part of the Human Capital Operational Programme, Priority III: A high-quality education system.
