The research activities of the Foreign Language Section focus on foreign language teaching methods.

The main objective of these activities is to examine the effectiveness of foreign language teaching in Polish schools. The results of the studies undertaken by the Section will help to assess language skills of Polish students against the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), to determine the socio-economic factors affecting the level of these skills and to identify practices which support effective language learning. Special attention is given to oral communication skills assessment.

Another important aim of the Section research activities is monitoring the implementation of the new core curriculum for foreign languages from its introduction in the first grades of primary and lower secondary schools in 2009. This research strand focus is not only on monitoring the conditions of the implementation of the new core curriculum for foreign languages, as specified in the official documents, but also on ensuring that the specific requirements of the curriculum were defined at the appropriate level of difficulty.

The Section leader Magdalena Szpotowicz, PhD.
