Published on Monday, 05 December 2011 08:48

On 7-14 November a group of five members of the IBE Science Section visited the University of Reading, UK.  The main goals of their visit were to gain better understanding of:

  • British education system at school level
  • teaching methods in science classes
  • British system of teacher training

The group visited six secondary schools, observed over 20 general science, biology, chemistry and physics lessons, and carried out interviews with head teachers and science teachers.

.

The programme included also a visit to teacher training centres: The National Centre for Biotechnology Education at the University of Reading and the Science Learning Centre East Midlands at the University of Leicester, where the group had an opportunity speak with science teacher trainers among others John Oversby, Course Leader for PGCE science and Deb Heighes, PGCE/GTP Secondary Science Course Leader, both from the Institute of Education in Reading.
