Transformation of the school network in the years 2007-2012

A report summarising the transformation of the school network in the years 2007-2012 was presented today by IBE researchers. In 2007-2012 local governments closed nearly a thousand schools.
At the confrence in IBE, Jan Herczyński, PhD, and Aneta Sobotka presented the results of their study "Diagnosis of the changes in the network of primary and secondary schools in Poland, 2007-2012." The report is the first of its kind in Poland. The press conference was opened by Michał Sitek, PhD, Deputy Director for Research at IBE.

Nowadays the final, national written gymnasium examination in Danish language and literature even contains a possibility for teachers and students to choose an examination form that depends on access to the Internet during the examination.

Young Poles' skills are equal to their peers' in OECD countries. Taking into account the perspective of the last 17 years skill gain in Poland was the largest among the countries surveyed. The PIAAC national report was presented in Warsaw by IBE experts: Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak, PhD, and the deputy director of the Institute, Zbigniew Stępniewski.

Polish lower secondary school students foreign language competences are worse than those of their peers in Europe. This is the main conclusion of the European Survey on Language Competences carried out in 2011. IBE published the Polish country report of the ESLC study.
