The aim of this study concerning in-school systems of assessment was to show how schools use their legal autonomy in order to create their own systems of assessment and, in particular, in what way they fill the legal frame with their own solutions and how these solutions are perceived by school principals, teachers, evaluators, parents and pupils. The study was expected to indicate the problems the autonomy gives rise to in school practice.
.The study was divided into a quantitative part (measurement of a nationwide representative sample group of school principals conducted using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI)) and a qualitative part (analysis of existing materials – documents including descriptions of in-school systems of assessment, as well as individual interviews (IDI) and focus group interviews (FGI)).
The study included principals, students and teachers of primary and middle schools, representatives of local educational authorities responsible for pedagogical supervision, psychologists, school counselors and parents.
The results of the study have been used for the Polish section of the report: “OECD Review on Evaluation and Assessment Frameworks for Improving School Outcomes”.
The study was carried out by the BD Center research company from Rzeszów.
