As part of the “Study on the usefulness of foreign teaching aids in the implementation of the new core curriculum” and “Good teaching practices in Polish science teaching”, the IBE Science Section is carrying out research into the process of teaching science in selected European countries at ISCED2 level (equivalent to Polish gimnazjum). The aim of this research is to find out how the educational systems function in the countries visited, what methods and conditions exist in science lessons and how the systems for teacher training work.

.

The main sources of data are foreign study visits during which lessons were observed and interviews were carried out with teachers, school principals and representatives of teacher training organizations.

Research planned for 2010 - 2012 includes countries which achieved high scores in the PISA 2006 study in the category of understanding in science subjects: UK, France, Finland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, Norway and Holland.
