The Educational Research Institute is conducting an international Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) on behalf of the Ministry of National Education,
The study, initiated by the OECD, aims to provide the countries involved with data which will help in the assessment of educational policy concerning the profile of a teacher, professional teacher training, their views connected with teaching and their preferred teaching methods, the conditions in which they work, their views on the assessment of the work of teachers and schools, and the management styles of school principals.
.Teachers and principals of schools equivalent to Polish lower secondary school were involved in the first study, which took place in the years 2007-2008. A more comprehensive second study will take place in 2013.
Among the priorities of the second study are: school leadership; the practices and beliefs of teachers about teaching, education and professional teacher development; school atmosphere and ethos.
In Poland, teachers from primary and post-lower-secondary schools, as well as those from lower secondary schools, will participate in the study, and online data collection (ODC) will be used as a method of data collection.
It must be stressed that the results of the TALIS study are based on indicated answers, and therefore represent only the opinions and beliefs of teachers and school principals.
